#2 The Riddle

But where do we start Patrick!’, I replied. ‘How do we turn our meandering travel log into a book?’

Patrick could sense the uneasiness in my tone.

‘I mean, Patrick, we don’t even have a job anymore’. ‘We are LITERALLY back at square one!!!’.

I continued to hyperventilate, my thoughts bouncing from one topic to the next, each one more alarming than the last.

‘Do we even have the time?’

‘Should we not be focusing on the more pressing matters like trying to get back up on our feet, re-entering the corporate world and getting our life back on track??’

‘A structured sense of purpose Patrick. I don’t think we have it in us’.

Patrick raised his right hand in an attempt to quell my manic outburst. I took once glance at him and continued with my rant.

With one’s eyes they shall now see

‘A home, a family, a pension, a structure! These are more important pillars to construct!! We need to start building the foundations before its too late!!!’

Patrick sensed my point of no return and with one foul swoop quenched the negativity from the air.

’S I L E N C E ! ! ! ! ! !’, he yelled.

I stopped suddenly in my tracks and stared across at him, my nostrils flaring from manic breathing and palpitations.

He didn’t say a word. He just sat there on the windowsill, his right hand still in the air and his eyes closed in deep thought.

The tension in the room was unbearable and just as I was about to break it with another maniacal outcry Patrick opened his eyes and began to speak.

What was one shall now be three
What was stuck shall forever be free
With one’s eyes they shall now see
If one follows guidance from me

I was about to interject as I feared Patrick had finally succumbed to The Dark Side but before I could he opened his eyes and looked directly at me.

‘Hand me the notepad master. I will show you what I mean’.

With that, I gave the pad to Patrick and watched in awe as he began to sketch our future.
